Relatively speaking, this has probably been one of the most healthy weeks of this year. After a couple of exuberant weekends lately, I felt the need to recharge and prepare my body for the rapidly approaching bikini season. Luckily, I received a direct mail offer for a free week at the Sports Club/LA, a fashionable gym next to the Ritz Carlton downtown, so I decided to give it a try.
Here follows a quick summary of the week's activities:
Monday - Yoga with an instructor named Chanel who told great stories about her trip to New Orleans to help hurricane victims through a project called "Yoga for peace".
Tuesday - Endurance spinning class, OH MY GOD! One of the most brutal workouts ever, I was about to quit half way through, but stayed just to exercise my willpower, which has been severely under challenged lately. It felt awesome afterwards though..
Wednesday - Splash Core workout in the pool with buoys and an somewhat middle-aged instructor who recommended we go see the MIT water polo team, which consisted of "gorgeous blond German guys with blue eyes and really fit bodies"
Thursday - MedBall Power. You know it has to be good if it has "Power" in the title. Great workout with weights, step and a ball, really good exercise for the telemark muscles. Still had energy left afterwards, so finished with a good 15 minutes on a tread mill
Friday - Another Yoga class in a room with an enormous glass wall facing the street in the theater district. Great to relax in the quiet room while hearing all the sirens and cars rushing by outside. My muscles definitely are not yet yoga-proficient, some of those poses are harsh..
Although the classes were really good, the best part was the locker rooms, filled with hot-from -the-dryer towels, a sauna and a steam room. And a fancy café outside were all the executives turn their blackberries back on while having dinner. I'm totally determined to find a club like this in Oslo, and I'm sure as hell gonna miss the luxury when I now have to start going to the BU gym! Oh well, just another month left of my student life, soon I'll be a veritable income-earning worker..
